SASSA Child Support Grant Application,Requirements,Status check and Payment date

SASSA Child Support Grant Application,Requirements,Status check and Payment date The SASSA Child Support Grant is an important intervention designed to help poor families take care of their dependent children. Like the SASSA Foster Child Grant program, this initiative is also meant to help the caregiver by filling the financial gaps.

Eligibility Criteria for SASSA Child Support Grant

  1. Caregiver Status
    • The applicant for the grant in question should be a primary caregiver who is either a South African citizen, a permanent resident or a recognized asylum seeker. This status is confirmed by producing supporting evidence in the form of a South African Identity document, permanent residence certificate or refugee status documents. The caregiver should also be the person who attends to the daily needs of the child on a consistent basis.
  2. Residency Requirements
    • Both the caregiver and the child must be residing in South Africa. This is to ensure that the benefits of the grant are used within the country to support the local economy and the well being of its younger residents.
  3. Age of the Child
    • The minor child for whom the application for the grant is made must be under the age of 18 years. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that assistance is primarily directed to young children who are usually unable to fend for themselves. In order to satisfy this requirement, birth certificates must be presented in evidence of the child’s age.
  4. Means Test
    • Government assistance programs frequently apply a means test which evaluates the financial capability of the applicant’s caregiver in order to ascertain that the grant is only reserved for those who really need it. The means test will include all of your income and any property held outside of your primary residence. Each of these income limits is subject to change, and therefore the most recent criteria can be found on the SASSA website or a SASSA office can be called for this information.
  5. Limit on Non-Biological Children
    • A caregiver can apply for the SASSA Child Support Grant in respect of up to six children who are not her biological children. This ensures that the resources of the grant system are well managed and that reasonable limits are placed on the number of non-biological children supported. Applications for non-biological children may require legal guardianship or foster care documentation.
  6. Child’s Living Arrangement
    • In order to qualify, it is essential that the child be living outside an institution. The grant focuses on such children who are cared for by individual guardians or families and not those who are wards of the state. This criterion assists in channeling financial resources towards children who are in a home which does not have the benefit of state resources and facilities.

Reasons for suspension include non-compliance with grant conditions (such as failure to send the child to school or take them for regular check-ups), using the grant for purposes other than the child’s well-being, violating laws, or losing citizenship.

The grant may also be suspended if the recipient is in arrears with any other government grants or benefits.

The following circumstances may result in the termination of SASSA child support grant entitlement:

When the applicable age limit for the child is reached; in this case, the majority of systems stop at age 18 but extend to age 21 provided the child is still in school full time or is disabled.
In the event that the family’s resources increase and exceed the set thresholds, the child dies or is relocated, or the parent is no longer the child’s principal caretaker.
If there are any changes in the condition of the recipient and they could not qualify for the benefits as a result of those changes.
If the applicant fails to reapply for the grant within the stipulated time or fails to update their details, engages in dishonest practices and illegal activities, or renounces South African nationality.
If the recipient has any unpaid debts concerning other state aid received from the government.
